TV Oost: This innovation from Overijssel is conquering the world of commando training
Commandos from the armed forces, police officers and the German special forces: they all train using a system designed in Enschede. How a small company specialising in virtual worlds is suddenly growing enormously due to the turmoil in the real world.
We are standing in a desert-like environment. Knees bent, hands outstretched with a handgun clamped between them. Human figures appear in front of us; sometimes in neat suits, sometimes dangerous with weapons at the ready. It is up to us to make a quick decision: to shoot or not to shoot. The time pressure and the stress of choosing make the adrenaline immediately palpable.
Until we take off the VR glasses and put the replica weapon back in its holster.
Here, in an old F-16 shelter at Technology Base, is the home of RE-liON (derived from “rely on”). They specialise in creating virtual worlds to train agents and soldiers. Their client list proves that they are making great strides.
And that growth will continue. You can read the whole story on TV Oost: https://www.oost.nl/nieuws/3612431/deze-innovatie-uit-overijssel-verovert-de-trainingswereld-van-commandos
